…an adhesive vinyl project
Over Christmas, we had an engagement announced in our extended family. (Congratulations C & M!) So exciting! Since Valentine’s Day is also a prime time for engagements, I thought I’d share my “Does this ring make me look engaged?” travel mug in case some of you have a near and dear one pop the question (or answer it!) sometime soon.
After giving you long tutorials for the last two projects, this is a quickie project that you can cut and apply and away you go. “Away you go”… it’s a travel mug, get it? ;^)
On with the project…

I cut mine about 2½” tall. Feel free to increase the size of the design to suit your cup, or decrease the size of the diamond, if you like. I wouldn’t go any smaller for the font, though, or you might lose the dots.
What to do…
Cut the words from black permanent adhesive vinyl and the diamond from silver glitter permanent adhesive vinyl (or whatever colors you’d like).
To keep all the tiny letter bits where they should be, weed the design using this reverse weeding technique. Here’s my weeded text stuck to the transfer tape.
Apply the text first. When applying vinyl to a cup, I hold the cup on my lap so it doesn’t roll, and then eyeball placement. For this project, you want to apply the vinyl with the handle pointing to the right. This places the design on the side of the cup that’ll show when the engaged drinker holds the cup in her left hand with her engagement ring in plain sight. Start by attaching the center of the design, then gently work outward to the left, then the right, smoothing the design onto the cup with your fingers as you go.
Burnish (rub) the design well with a squeegee. The adhesive is pressure sensitive, so use good pressure to get it to stick well. Then peel off the transfer tape.
Apply the diamond the same way.
